Takin’ It to the Streets
That’s right. Azalea, Unschooled has hit the mean streets of Portland, Maine. Except, it was South Portland, and it wasn’t so much the streets as the mall. Still. It was a lot of fun signing books at the Islandport Press kiosk at the Maine Mall this past weekend with Cooper and Packrat author Tamra Wight. (By the way, she has a third book about them coming out this spring!) We had a great time meeting people and talking about our books. During lulls, she and I discussed weighty issues pertaining to the writing life, such as whether or not one should venture out to stores on Black...

A. Officially, 8-12, but it’s suitable for younger, precocious readers and for curious adults. Q. Is this book for boys, too? A. Yes! All...

I traveled through Bangor, Maine recently, where I stopped in at the Briar Patch bookstore. We have some great independent bookstores down here in Portland, Maine, but none that are dedicated specifically to children’s books. What a fantastic store–if you find yourself in Bangor, I highly recommend that you stop in! Say hi to Gibran behind the counter. While I was at the Briar Patch, I felt proud and honored to see Azalea, Unschooled on display next to the books of Maine writers Cynthia Lord and Anne Sibley O’Brien. Annie O’Brien is a friend of mine, and I had the...
