If You Remember Splendorific At All…

…you were probably watching during the early years, back when a cast of earnest kids organized a community garden and made macramé plant holders. Later, when the cool, arrogant eighties arrived, the show lurched irrevocably from its roots. The old gang disappeared, and each week contestants competed for prizes. The show got cancelled and then revived for one last run. Splendorific enthusiasts–they do exist; there are websites and a brisk trade in vintage Splendorific t-shirts–don’t even acknowledge that last season as legitimate. They call it the PCS–post-cancellation season–and it’s understood that anyone who cares about it doesn’t really get Splendorific.

I’m happy to announce that my short story “Splendorific” (excerpted above), chosen by guest fiction editors Marge Piercy and Ira Wolf, is now appearing in the Spring 2015 issue of Fifth Wednesday Journal.
