I was very happy to see Azalea, Unschooled on the Maine summer reading shelf at my local branch of the Portland Public Library. There’s something about summer and Maine…summer in general, I guess. It seems like a lot of kids’ books take place during the summer because it’s the time when the rules of ordinary life, the school year rules, are suspended. Funny that a lot of my book takes place in summer, even though it is about unschoolers, kids for whom the school year rules are always suspended. Maybe I just couldn’t get out of my conventional-schooling mindset, or maybe it’s just that I really wanted to write about the magic of summer in Maine. As you can see in the photo, I’m in good company.
You have no idea how happy that I was to see this! My retired teachers group has chosen your book as our book to be placed this year in all the children’s libraries in Oxford County. We will be needing 25 copies for our fall meeting when members will deliver them to the libraries. I do need one copy by next Friday’s meeting. Would you please send it to me and tell me the cost of the 26 books? We will send you a check to cover their costs. I’m hopeful that we can make this happen. FYI…our program is called “Maine Books for Maine Kids”…my address is Karen M. Ellis @ 34 Gothic Street in South Paris, Maine 04281…please autograph the book. I hope to hear from you soon…Nana Karen
